Irvine will consider new budget process

The Irvine City Council today could adopt a new process to develop a budget for the 2019-20 fiscal years.

Irvine Public Affairs and Communications Director Craig Reem says it would be a two year budget cycle in the context of a comprehensive five year financial plan.

Currently, the city has an annual budget.

Reem says the new process would promote transparency and bring in accountability in government spending. It would also allow for long-term strategic planning.

Today’s City Council meeting begins at four in the afternoon.
