Irvine will transition to a two year budget cycle

The Irvine City Council has agreed to transition the budget process from a one year cycle to a two year cycle for the 20-19—20-20 fiscal years.

City Public Affairs and Communications Director Craig Reem says the idea came from City Manager John Russo who told the Council a two year budget would promote transparency, and bring in accountability in government spending. And also allow for long-term strategic planning.

Reem says the city will host several public meetings next year on the new budget process.
