San Juan Capistrano City Council denies appeals to the Inn at the Mission Hotel project

The San Juan Capistrano City Council has denied the appeals for the development of the Inn at the Mission, which was formerly called the Plaza Banderas Hotel. It’s located on the corner of the Ortega Highway and El Camino Real, across from Mission San Juan Capistrano.

Councilwoman Kerry Ferguson says in the development agreement, small changes are allowed to the plans of which the group appealing had claimed were big changes.

She says the developer had moved the pool to a better location, the driveway was reworked to make it safer and the parking was repositioned.

Ferguson says the Council believes the group’s motivation to appeal was to slow the project down.

She says the group intends on suing the city and it includes resident Steve Behmerwohld and Newmeyer & Dillion LLP representative Charles Krolikowski.

She says the hotel will have 124 rooms, a Hospitality Room and a swimming pool.

She anticipates it opening late next year or early in 2020.
