Possible dual enrollment on high school campuses

The South Orange County Community College District board and the Capistrano Unified School District board are studying a proposed agreement to offer free Saddleback College courses on Capo high school campuses.

Saddleback College Career & Technical Education Assistant Dean Kari Irwin says the program would be offered to all high school students, but the main target would be those students less likely to go to college. And by doing so, would increase the confidence level for students taking college courses and help them advance in their academic progress. And also address any skills gaps.

Irwin says if approved by both boards, the districts would work on developing programming that may include math, English and general studies and possibly career education studies.

She says students enrolled in the program could have their college credit transferrable to Saddleback College and possibly other colleges.

She says the hope is to offer the pilot program in the fall.
