Tax Filing Season

The tax filing season began on Monday.

Internal Revenue Service spokesman Raphael Tulino says the former partial federal government shutdown shouldn’t delay refunds. Staff is working as hard as possible to process tax returns to insure the refund timing is as normal as it has been in previous years.  And that is for e-filers with direct deposit, refunds could be sent out within three weeks.

Tulino says nine out ten taxpayers file electronically and that’s the most efficient way to do it because of the changes in the tax law. The software is updated with all the new tax rules.

He says those who earn 66-thousand dollars or less may electronically file their federal tax forms for free by going to the website www.IRS.gov
