Dana Point City Council will discuss short term rentals
The Dana Point City Council tonight may give guidelines to staff as it drafts a proposed ordinance on short term rentals.
Council member Debra Lewis says the Short Term Rental Subcommittee will present a draft of an ordinance which states short term rentals can only be home sharing. The rental must be the owner’s primary property and live in the home while it’s being rented.
She says many residents are empty-nesters with a room to rent and would like to do so as a short term rental.
Lewis says there are people who want to expand the guidelines to enable the purchase of homes in neighborhoods for the purpose of short term rentals and in effect, forcing residents to live near hotels instead of in a residential community.
Tonight’s City Council meeting begins at six.
