Mission Viejo may buy a golf course

The Mission Viejo City Council tomorrow will vote on whether to buy the Casta del Sol Golf Course from American Golf Corporation.

The golf course property and open space behind it totals 108 acres.

Mayor Greg Raths says if the Council approves the purchase, American Golf will operate the course for three years until the city figures out how to run it and what to do with the remaining property.

He says the Council wants to save the property for residents and preserve the open space.

Raths says American Golf had put the property up for sale for 15 million dollars and the city was successful to get the price down to 13 million dollars.

He believes if the Council approves the sale, the city will own the property before the year is over.

Tomorrow’s Council meeting begins at five in the evening.
