Laguna Woods will have a new library
The Laguna Woods City Council this afternoon is expected to approve contracts for the architectural designs for a County library.
Mayor Cynthia Conners says the city will be able to pay for the library with the help of Democratic Assemblywoman Cottie Petrie-Norris who was able to secure a half a million dollars in state library funds. The city will pay $600.000.
She says the 18-hundred square foot library will be built in the parking lot in front of City Hall. It will create a new patio, with half of the space library stacks, the other half open space for gatherings and special programs.
Construction is expected to be completed within two years.
She says currently, the city has a tiny library operating out of the City Hall and it’s very busy.
Today’s City Council meeting begins at two in the afternoon.
