Rancho Santa Margarita may again host 5k Run/Walk

A 5k Run/Walk event may return to Rancho Santa Margarita.

Mayor Jerry Holloway says the City Council tonight will talk about resurrecting the event that was held in the city between 2005 and 2009. But had to be discontinued due to the recession.

He says staff will present a proposed plan and budget to have the event on Labor Day.

He says it’s possible the city could use the event to honor Patriot Day and involve the Camp Pendleton marine unit the city sponsors, as well as law enforcement and firefighters. There could be some competition between the military and rescue units.

Tonight’s City Council meeting begins at seven.
