Autopsy says ex-pro surfer was on meth before cliff plunge

A former professional surfer was high on methamphetamine when he plunged from a cliff to his death last month in Santa Barbara.

KSBY-TV says autopsy and toxicology reports released Wednesday showed that 48-year-old Chris Brown had a high level of meth in his system when he fell from the cliff near Hendry's Beach, where he was found on Jan. 19.

The report says Brown suffered traumatic injuries in the fall to the rocky shoreline and then drowned in the surf.

His death is officially listed as "undetermined" but police say they've ruled out foul play.

Brown was a well-known surfer in the 1990s and later became a sea urchin diver.
