Rancho Santa Margarita may again host 5k Run/Walk

The Rancho Santa Margarita City Council has expressed an interest in bringing back a 5k Run/Walk event that was held between 2005 and 2009.

Mayor Jerry Holloway says instead of having the event on Labor Day, the Council is interested in changing the focus to Veteran’s Day on Nov. 11, to honor the Camp Pendleton marine unit the city sponsors, as well as local veterans and first responders.

He says the Council is concerned about the $125,000 cost to put it on. So staff has been asked to return to the Council in two weeks with a financial plan with lowered costs.

Holloway says the event could include a health fair as well as an opportunity for local businesses to promote themselves.
