South Orange County Community College District will change election system

The South Orange County Community College District board has approved a resolution to change its election system from the current at-large method to by-trustee area system.

District Public Affairs and Government Relations Director Letitia Clark says the change is expected for the 2022 election. And that would occur after the 2020 Census to determine the population of each district.

She says public meetings will be held to determine the districts.

The resolution indicates the change is being made to comply with the Voting Rights Act, to avoid the potential for costly litigation.
