San Clemente will encourage more Neighborhood Watches

The San Clemente City Council heard the city’s Chief of Police Services Lt. Michael Peters talk about crime statistics.

Mayor Steve Swarz says the stats were mixed in comparison to prior years, with increases in some crimes, mainly break-ins and smash and grab activities involving cars. There were no increases in major crimes such as murders.

He says the Council would like to inspire the creation of more Neighborhood Watches to reduce crime in the city. A coordinator from the Orange County Sheriff’s Department will be brought in to help organize them.
