Rancho Santa Margarita may fine street sweeping violators-

Rancho Santa Margarita’s City Council intends on having fines issued to those who park their vehicles on streets when street sweeping is scheduled.

Mayor Jerry Holloway says the Council tonight will introduce the first reading of an ordinance that would have the citations issued to those who park on 12 streets that have been identified as having poor compliance of keeping them clear of vehicles during street sweeping.

He says the Council had hesitated for years to have citations issued, but the trash build up is so bad, the city may be violating federal regulations on the amount of waste that makes its way to the drains and the ocean

Holloway says next week, a 60 day warning period will be in place for those who park on the streets when street sweeping is scheduled. Then starting on June 17 fines may be issued.

He says each citation will cost $50.

Tonight’s City Council meeting begins at seven.
