Earthquake Preparedness
An earthquake is the sudden, rapid shaking of the earth, caused by the breaking and shifting of underground rock. Earthquakes can cause buildings to collapse and heavy items to fall resulting in injuries and property damage.
April is Earthquake Preparedness Month.
American Red Cross Regional Preparedness Manager Amy Estey who serves Orange, San Bernardino and Riverside Counties says a home that is prepared for an earthquake will have secured items, such as televisions and objects that hang on the walls. It would also have heavy items and breakable objects on low shelves.
She recommends making an emergency supply kit that includes food, water, flashlights and batteries.
Estey is the guest on our public affairs show “Collage,” that airs this evening at seven.
