Drowning Prevention
Laguna Hills Mayor Pro-Tem Janine Heft is participating in the movement to prevent drownings. She decided to do something after her friend’s six year old son, died from drowning when he was in a pool with two lifeguards on duty.
Heft is working with the national organization “Stop Drowning Now,” which has an educational program involving kids teaching kids to avoid drowning.
She says children are taught not to go into a pool unless an adult is watching. And if something does happen, contact an adult immediately and make sure children know their address and phone number.
Heft says she started the program at Lomarena Elementary School in Laguna Hills last week and has the vision of seeing the program throughout Orange County and beyond.
