Man sentenced to 5 years for racist threat to pregnant woman
A California man has been sentenced to five years in prison after pleading guilty to making racist threats against an African American woman who was eight months pregnant.
Prosecutors opposed the deal 43-year-old Tyson Mayfield received from Orange County Superior Court Judge Roger B. Robbins in Fullerton.
Prosecutors wanted a 38-year-to-life sentence for Mayfield for threatening the woman and her unborn baby at a bus stop last year after prior convictions for attacking bystanders.
Authorities say Mayfield punched a man outside a supermarket in 2017 while yelling racist insults, hit a man at a gas station in 2006 and stabbed a man near a liquor store in 2005.
Defense attorney Paul Rogers says Mayfield was eligible for the deal because he had no weapon and no one was injured.
