Dana Point expands ban on polystyrene food service ware
The Dana Point City Council has agreed to amend its ordinance banning polystyrene products to include those packaged outside of the city for sale inside.
Councilwoman Debra Lewis says currently, the ordinance only bans the products that are packaged inside of the city. And the Council had realized after it passed a state required ordinance allowing street vendors, that its current ordinance has a loop hole in which the vendors could use polystyrene packaged foods from outside of the city.
She says with the amended ordinance, the loop hole is plugged before there’s a problem.
Lewis says polystyrene products can harm sea animals.
The exceptions to the ban include food coolers and ice chests as well as food that is packaged in nationally manufactured materials.
