Water Awareness Month

Water is a precious resource we need to live.

May is water awareness month. Municipal Water District of Orange County Assistant General Manager Karl Seckel says thanks to the season’s rainfall, the drought between the years 2012 and 2016 is over.

He says there’s no way to predict when a drought can happen again. Mother Nature determines whether we have a water surplus or deficit. And currently, Orange County is at 150 percent of rainfall.

Seckel says the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California, which imports water from Northern California and the Colorado River,  has its highest reservoirs ever, with over 300 million acre feet. That’s enough water supply for one-and-a-half years without getting water from other sources.

He says even though we’re not in a drought, we need to continue to do what we can to preserve water such as disallowing water to flow beyond lawns into streets and using water efficient appliances.

He, along with Municipal Water District of Orange County Director Jeff Thomas are the guests on our public affairs show “Collage,” which airs this evening at seven.

“Collage” may also be heard anytime on-line www.Jazz885.org
