Laguna Niguel approves solid waste rate increase

Laguna Niguel residents in July will pay an additional $2.45 to have their waste hauled away.

Interim City Manager Bob Hall says the City Council approved the rate increase on behalf of trash hauler CR&R. It will need to charge the amount to cover its costs of collecting and then recycling organic waste, such as food scraps.

He says all residents will put the organic material in their green waste container that’s used for yard trimmings. And the five thousand customers who don’t yet have a container will get one before July 1. Additionally, CR&R’s 22,000 Laguna Niguel customers will get a bucket for their kitchen to deposit organic material that they can then transport to their green waste bin.

Hall says CR&R will provide information about the organic material recycling program to its customers before it begins.
