San Clemente’s Mayor dies while on vacation 

San Clemente residents are mourning the sudden loss of their Mayor Steven Swartz who died yesterday while on vacation in Palm Springs at the age of 71.

The cause of death hasn’t been released.

The Orange County Register reports his wife Nikki had stated her husband hadn’t been feeling well for a few days. He went to lay down and then she found him.

Swartz was elected to the City Council in November 2016 and was appointed as Mayor in December.

He owned the San Clemente bond underwriting business South Coast Surety.

He’s survived by his wife Nikki and son Kyle.

The San Clemente website indicates in accordance to city policy, city flags will remain lowered to half-staff in memorial of Mayor Swartz until his interment.
