Laguna Woods observes Elder Abuse Awareness Month

Laguna Woods is a city of over 18,000 residents and the average age is 76.

This afternoon, the City Council will observe Elder Abuse Awareness Month.

Mayor Cynthia Conners says the Council will talk about the problem.

She says the primary abuse residents in her community face is financial abuse where their accounts are being depleted by family members and sometimes caregivers.

Conners says residents are warned about scams. She encourages neighbors to check on each other to make sure they don’t fall prey to people taking advantage of them financially.

Today’s City Council meeting begins at two in the afternoon.
