IRS redesigns tool to do a paycheck checkup
The Internal Revenue Service has redesigned its Tax Withholding Estimator to make it easier for everyone to have the right amount of tax withheld during the year.
IRS spokesman Raphael Tulino says for the 2018 tax year, many people ended up owing more taxes than they expected and that was because they had less money withheld from paychecks.
He says the redesigned online tool uses plain language with a more user-friendly step-by-step tool for effectively tailoring the amount of income tax they have withheld from wages and pension. No personal information is sought in the estimator.
Tulino says to use the website, he recommends having available a few pay stubs and last year’s tax return.
