Orange County needs volunteers to count the homeless

Every two years, Orange County relies on volunteers to conduct its Point in Time headcount of homeless people. This year, the count will occur on Wednesday, Jan. 23 and Thursday, Jan. 24.

Orange County Homeless Czar Susan Price says a thousand volunteers are needed to work as team captains, field surveyors and deployment center support.

She says the homeless will be asked 28 questions on their demographics and needs. The results will help the County to better understand homelessness in the community and guides the way it and its partners respond to the growing issue.

She says depending on the duties, volunteers may be as young as age 16.

Interested volunteers may register on-line www.EveryoneCountsOC.org.

She says training is recommended and available, but not required.
