San Clemente closes transitional homeless campsite

The San Clemente City Council has taken action to close the city’s temporary homeless transitional campsite.
Mayor Pro Tem Laura Ferguson says the Council repealed all ordinances allowing its existence on the Pico property.
She says it was costing the city $31,000 a month to operate when recently, only five people were utilizing the site.
She says the city will help them get housing either through vouchers; connecting them to established resources or provide transportation to reunite them with family.
Ferguson says the Council will continue to explore an alternative campsite for the homeless and that will come back for discussion and approval next year.
