Laguna Woods looking to cut back on costs

The Laguna Woods City Council has agreed to direct staff to include budget reductions as it prepares the city’s budget for final approval next month.

Mayor Cynthia Conners says the cutbacks are necessary due to the rising costs of law enforcement. The Council decided to stop paying dues to some organizations the city belongs to and reduce amounts spent for travel and conferences.

She says the city will also try to make commercial areas more attractive for businesses to locate to the city to increase sales taxes. And it could do so by easing regulations.
